SoxProspects.com Red Sox Podcast
The most comprehensive Red Sox discussion, from the minor leagues up to Fenway, on the web.

We have our first big promotion of the season, as Brayan Bello, the system's top pitching prospect, got the call to Triple-A Worcester (following consecutive SoxProspects Pitcher of the Week honors). Chris and Ian broke down the decision to move Bello up along with fellow ranked righty AJ Politi. Oh, and by the way... we've got Noah Song news! Might Red Sox fans' favorite Naval Academy grad find his way back to a baseball field after all? Plus, how John Schreiber became a thing, and your emails!

In this week's episode, Ian relays some more reports from his second set of games with the Sea Dogs, finishing his look at the club's stacked rotation, impressive bullpen, and ... also the lineup. Plus Chris and Ian discuss the improving 40-man depth with Connor Seabold, Josh Winckowski, and Jeter Downs, the super-brief call-up of Jarren Duran, Nick Northcut turning into the king of homers and strikeouts, the emergence of Eduardo Lopez, and much more! (NOTE: This episode was recorded before Thursday night's news that Noah Song had graduated flight school and applied for another service waiver - we'll discuss that on the next episode!)

It's a new month and that means a rankings update. Chris and Ian discussed the movement in the May 1 update and went into why, a month in, the context of player performance is especially important in evaluation. Plus, things are bad in Boston - what can be done? We close, as always, with your emails.

The Red Sox are scuffling, particularly on offense, so it's time to ask: when do the Red Sox call up Triston Casas? Ian and Chris looked at what's ailing the MLB club and whether giving the organization's top prospect his first taste of the Bigs is what the doctor ordered. Plus, Ian has reports from Portland, with the best pitching staff in the system, and as always, your emails!

The first full week of the minor league season is in the books, and whoever told you that's not enough of a sample size to draw conclusions from... was probably right, but we're talking about it anyway! The Portland arms and Greenville bats are red hot, but who else caught the guys' eyes? Ian has some reports from Worcester as well, plus, your emails!

After two years (or three, depending on how you're counting) the SoxProspects crew made its triumphant return to the back fields at Fenway South! Chris and Ian have the highlights regarding who impressed, who didn't, and who to watch this season. Plus, we dissect who the Red Sox might carry on the final few roster spots and potential complications there, as well as examine how the Triston Casas-Marcelo Mayer-Nick Yorke trio compares to other top threesomes across the league and historically in the organization.

One way or another, this will be the last episode of the podcast to primarily focus on the latest regarding the lockout. With no deal yet, which minor leaguers will be most affected? How will the organization adjust? Chris and Ian looked at those questions and more. Plus, transactions and your emails, including the guys talking about how they started at SoxProspects!

We may have started a podcast in the hopes that the bargaining tables we would discuss would have more to do with player contracts than labor negotiations, but right now, the lockout is the topic du jour, so Chris and Ian went deep on the issues dividing the owners and players and what is at stake. If you like Rage Chris, you will like this. But worry not! There's prospect talk in here too, including an extended debate between the guys about just how deep the Red Sox farm system is right now. If you're among those who think they agree too much, you are going to enjoy this segment!

While the Red Sox may be holding their Winter Warm-Up for prospects, negotiations between MLB and the MLBPA seem as chilled as ever. Still, we soldier on, discussing the organization's newest prospect camp and the newest class of international free agents along with the club's strategy internationally. Also discussed: the latest on the lockout and Seiya Suzuki rumors, plus some minor transactions. We then hit another bumper crop of great emails, talking about the Red Sox defense and its effect on pitching, player projection, what effect the lockout extending into the season may have in Worcester and Portland, and more.
